CSWE is seeking a Program Associate, Grants and Projects to join our team of professionals passionate about strengthening social work education. The Program Associate for Grants and Projects within the Department of Education Initiatives and Research will provide leadership for the activities associated with grants and contracts at CSWE. Leadership includes, grant management and implementation, marketing, compliance and report writing. Executive Director, The Barn at Spring Brook Farm

The Barn at Spring Brook Farm is a 501c (3) located in West Chester, PA whose mission is to enrich the lives of children with disabilities through animal-assisted activities.

Job Summary

The Executive Director is the key management leader of The Barn at Spring Brook Farm. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and Strategic Plan of The Barn.  Other key duties include developing and implementing the development strategy and achieving fundraising goals for The Barn, marketing, and community outreach.  The incumbent will advance the mission and core values of The Barn and reports directly to The Board of Directors.

Scope of Authority

Oversees all aspects of The Barn at Spring Brook Farm; Directly manages the budget and staff of The Barn.

Responsibilities

General Administration

  • Influences the setting of goals and objectives in the strategic planning process and monitors ongoing progress toward achieving those goals
  • Acts as liaison to The Board and The Founder of the organization
  • Creates Executive Director Reports for each of the six Board of Director meetings during the year and attends all of the Board meetings
  • Implements policies and decisions of The Board
  • Interacts with families we serve to make sure The Barn is fulfilling its mission
  • Understands safety of animal interaction, their special traits and how they are best utilized for animal-assisted activities
  • Understands all aspects of the budget and continually monitors line items for both accuracy and targeted goals
  • Communicates with Board President, Board Treasurer and bookkeeper regarding budget variances and corrective solutions, if necessary
  • Serves on the Finance and Development Committees
  • Cultivates new volunteers, Board members, Advisory Board Members, donors and families
  • Oversees compliance with all Barn policies and procedures including but not limited to the Pocopson Township Regulations, The Employee Manual and By-Laws.
  • Maintains records, databases, files and archives in compliance with all applicable laws
  • Develops social media strategy with input from the Marketing Committee to market The Barn, inform families of activities and attract donations
  • Manages the office
  • Attends all Socialization Events

Management

  • Manages Facilities Manager, Program Manager and Camp Director
  • Oversees work of Bookkeeper ensuring correct procedures are being implemented and work is done in timely fashion
  • Develops annual performance goals for each position based on the Goals established in the Strategic Plan
  • Evaluates performance of staff based on performance of their job responsibilities and achievement of annual goals
  • Contributes to setting annual performance goals for the Executive Director position with input from The Board
  • Oversees the upkeep of the property, utilities, equipment and animals with the input of Facilities Manager
  • Monitors the quality of all programs offered by The Barn and makes recommendations for improvements with the input of The Program Manager, Board of Directors and Founder
  • Communicates with staff on a regular basis regarding Board meetings and initiatives

Development

  • Creates annual Development Plan with input from the Development Committee; leads and manages the overall development efforts to raise an annual amount as determined by the budget
  • Develops and implements public relations and marketing plans with input from the Marketing Committee
  • Interacts with The Board and Advisory Board to maximize their support and contributions
  • Advocates for The Barn with community organizations and community events
  • Cultivates and stewards relationships with current and potential individual, corporate and foundation donors and sponsors.
  • Oversees planning and execution of fundraising events including, but not limited to, The Hoe Down, Spring Fundraiser and Annual Appeal
  • Attends all fundraising events
  • Provides weekly donation reports
  • Oversees grant writing initiatives; writes grants when applicable
  • Maintains Salesforce database with donor information
  • Oversees timely and appropriate thank you process for donations and sponsorships

Clearances and Training

  • Must pass all pre-employment clearances required to work with children in PA
  • Must complete Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse training within 30 days of employment

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Five or more years of non-profit management and development experience
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets as well as cultivating major gifts
  • Experience with people management preferred
  • Experience working with children with disabilities preferred
  • Experience working with horses preferred
  • Must pass all PA required clearances and take required educational courses for working with children

Knowledge

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, Use of Google Docs and Drive
  • Proficiency with Salesforce database management system
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donors unique to the nonprofit sector; experience with diversifying funding base of organization
  • Knowledge of Barn mission, history and programs
  • Knowledge of animal- assisted activities for children is preferred
  • Knowledge of the Chester County and surrounding area foundation landscape

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work in Barn environment including: animals and everything that goes along with the care of animals, hay, straw, feed, dust, etc.
  • Able to work in non-air conditioned and unheated areas of The Barn when required
